The late moon walking US astronaut Neil Armstrong once escaped being hanged in Langholm, Scotland. Still Neil Armstrong chose to call Langholm his home town.
The hanging did not occur because the town authorities of Langholm chose to ignore a 400 year old law which commanded the town authorities to hang any ‘Armstrong’ found in the region. Such laws were common during the bloody wars between Scottish clans.
Instead they honored the astronaut with full pomp and splendor.
