It is certain that 2014 is the year when thousands of newborn girls will be named Lupita all over the word. This is going to happen when and if Lupita Nyong’o wins an Oscar for her role in ’12 Years a Slave.’


Lupita has already won the Screen Actors Guild award for best actress in a supporting role. Critics’ Choice Award is also in her bag of accomplishments for her role in ’12 years a slave.’ The much appreciated role is that of Patsey. She is also nominated for a BAFTA, Golden Globe and Oscar.


Lupita Nyong’o is a Kenyan although she was born in Mexico. Her name is after that of Our Lady of Guadalupe who is known affectionately as Lupita. She has been acting since a young age with a role in Romeo and Juliet at the age of 14. She acquired a MFA from the Yale School of Drama after years of acting and living in Kenya. She got the role in ’12 Years a Slave’ just before she graduated from Yale.


She was inspired by the performances of Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey in the movie ‘The Color Purple.’ It is certain this young lady of 30 is going to wear royal purple in the world of movies for a long time to come.
